The STEDI Type-X™ EVO 8.5" Flood LED Driving Light is a dedicated wide-beam driving light designed to place a broad, flat spread of illumination across the road and surrounding critical zones. Rather than concentrating its output into a narrow long-range pencil beam, the EVO Flood uses all 44 CREE LEDs with 50-degree spread optics to improve lateral visibility through the useful mid-range driving area.
This product is priced and supplied as one individual flood driving light. It can be installed as a standalone replacement, paired with another EVO Flood for maximum width, or combined with an EVO Spot to create a customised balance of spread and long-range illumination.
The light features a compact 8.5-inch housing, 5000K output, IP68-rated construction, a three-dimensional primary lens and a gusseted cast-aluminium mounting bracket suitable for installation on an appropriate bull bar or supporting structure.
The Type-X™ EVO range is available in separate flood and spot configurations, allowing the beam pattern to be selected according to the intended driving conditions. In this EVO Flood model, all 44 LEDs are directed through wide 50-degree spread optics.
The resulting beam is broad and relatively flat, directing illumination laterally across the road and surrounding terrain rather than producing a narrow tunnel of light. This makes the flood version particularly suitable for winding roads, bush tracks and environments where visibility beyond the road edges is important.
The EVO Flood is designed to place its strongest usable light within the mid-range area ahead of the vehicle. STEDI describes this as the critical zone: the distance in which the driver needs to identify an obstacle and react safely while travelling at road speed.
A single EVO Flood produces an elongated horizontal beam extending beyond 475 metres, while the Type-X™ EVO platform can provide up to approximately 140 metres of lateral spread. The beam prioritises useful width and mid-range intensity rather than the maximum distance offered by the dedicated spot version.
Because the Type-X™ EVO Flood and Spot lights are available individually, the lighting arrangement can be selected to suit the vehicle and driving environment.
When two EVO Flood lights are used as a pair, the manufacturer specifies 29,990 raw lumens and 22,810 tested lumens. These figures apply to a pair; this product contains one individual light.
Each Type-X™ EVO uses 44 LEDs from CREE's XP range. In the flood model, every LED contributes to the wide 50-degree spread pattern, producing an even distribution of light across the road and surrounding critical zones.
The individual light draws 150W and approximately 12.5A at 13.2V. Compatibility with both 12V and 24V electrical systems allows it to be used across a variety of 4WD, touring and commercial vehicle applications.
The Type-X™ EVO produces a 5000K white light. This colour temperature provides clear definition of the road, track and surrounding terrain without relying on an excessively cool or blue-toned output.
The EVO housing is designed to provide substantial output from a compact package. Its carefully shaped silhouette minimises overall height compared with many larger conventional driving lights, expanding the range of vehicles and bull bars on which it can be installed.
The angular housing, sculpted lens and metallic bezel are designed to complement the lines and surfaces found on modern vehicles.
The Type-X™ EVO features a three-dimensional primary lens incorporated into the shape of the housing. The upper and lower portions of the lens use different angles, creating the distinctive sculpted appearance of the EVO range.
The lens assembly works with the dedicated wide-beam optics to distribute light laterally across the driving area.
A multi-bezel design places the structural seal beneath the external bezel. This layered construction protects the internal components while preserving the depth and shape of the outer housing.
The completed assembly is rated to IP68 and is specified as submersible in water to a depth of up to 3 metres.
The housing incorporates an updated heat-dissipation system designed to transfer operating heat away from the LEDs. Effective thermal management helps maintain consistent output during extended periods of operation.
The light is supported by a gusseted cast-aluminium bracket with a stable three-bolt mounting arrangement. Slotted holes in the base allow adjustment during installation and provide a minimum of approximately 18mm clearance from the vehicle grille.
The three-bolt design provides a secure mounting footprint intended to maintain alignment during travel over corrugated and uneven roads when attached to a suitable supporting structure.
The outer colour fascia can be changed without using an Allen key or dismantling the main housing. Grey and orange fascia options are supplied with the light, allowing its appearance to be adjusted to suit the vehicle.
Other colour fascia options and alternative protective covers may be available separately.
Important: The listed price is for one individual flood driving light, not a pair. The raw and tested lumen figures shown are the manufacturer's figures for two EVO Flood lights operating as a pair. A high-beam wiring harness is not included with the single light and must be selected separately where required. Confirm the available mounting space, supporting structure, electrical capacity and vehicle-specific high-beam connection before installation.
