Isuzu NPS 75 Dual AGM Battery System with 3-Position Tray and REDARC BCDC Classic40 – Fitted

This fitted dual-battery system adds two Hardcore 12V 120Ah AGM batteries to a compatible Isuzu NPS 75, providing a combined nominal auxiliary battery capacity of 240Ah.

The batteries are secured in a purpose-built three-position battery tray mounted to the Isuzu NPS chassis. Charging is managed by a REDARC BCDC Classic40 DC-DC battery charger, which accepts power from the vehicle’s compatible 24V electrical system and provides controlled charging to the 12V auxiliary battery bank.

The installation also includes a battery isolator and colour-coded 50A Anderson-style connectors for the required detachable electrical connections. The complete system is professionally mounted, electrically connected, configured and tested by AAV4x4 at our Brendale workshop.

240Ah AGM Auxiliary Battery Bank

The system includes two Hardcore 12V 120Ah AGM batteries configured as a compatible 12V auxiliary battery bank. Each battery has a nominal capacity of 120Ah at the published 20-hour discharge rate, providing a combined nominal capacity of 240Ah.

AGM stands for Absorbent Glass Mat. The electrolyte is retained within glass-mat separators between the internal battery plates, creating a sealed battery suitable for compatible vehicle auxiliary power installations.

The auxiliary battery bank can supply compatible vehicle accessories and electrical equipment. Available operating time depends on the connected load, discharge rate, temperature, battery condition and permitted depth of discharge.

Battery Capacity at Different Discharge Rates

Lead-acid battery capacity changes according to the rate at which the battery is discharged. The published capacity of each battery at 25°C is:

  • 120Ah at the 20-hour discharge rate
  • 110Ah at the 10-hour rate with an 11A discharge current
  • 102Ah at the 5-hour rate with a 20.4A discharge current
  • 72Ah at the 1-hour rate with a 72A discharge current

Higher-current loads therefore reduce the capacity available from the battery compared with the nominal 20-hour rating.

Battery Temperature Performance

Available AGM battery capacity also varies with temperature. At the published 10-hour discharge rate, each battery provides approximately:

  • 102% of rated capacity at 40°C
  • 100% of rated capacity at 25°C
  • 85% of rated capacity at 0°C
  • 65% of rated capacity at -15°C

Lower temperatures reduce the immediately available capacity and should be considered when estimating auxiliary-system operating time.

AGM Charging Requirements

The published constant-voltage charging specifications for each AGM battery at 25°C are:

  • Float charging voltage: 13.6–13.8V
  • Cycle charging voltage: 14.4–14.9V
  • Initial charging current: less than 24A per battery

The REDARC charger is configured with the appropriate AGM charging profile for the installed battery bank.

REDARC BCDC Classic40 DC-DC Battery Charger

The REDARC BCDC1240D Classic40 is a 12V 40A in-vehicle DC-DC battery charger. It accepts an input voltage between 9V and 32V, allowing it to charge the 12V auxiliary battery bank from the Isuzu NPS vehicle electrical system.

The charger regulates the voltage and current delivered to the auxiliary batteries rather than directly connecting them to the vehicle starting batteries. This provides controlled multi-stage charging while maintaining separation between the starting and auxiliary electrical systems.

40A Controlled Charging

The BCDC Classic40 provides a maximum rated charging current of 40A and a nominal output power of 600W.

The charger applies a charging profile selected for the installed AGM batteries. Controlled charging helps maintain the required battery voltage even when the vehicle charging-system voltage changes during operation.

24V Vehicle to 12V Auxiliary Charging

The REDARC charger is suitable for compatible 12V and 24V vehicle charging systems while providing a regulated 12V charging output.

In this installation, the charger allows the Isuzu NPS vehicle electrical system to charge the separate 12V AGM auxiliary battery bank.

Alternator and Solar Inputs

The BCDC Classic40 provides separate inputs for the vehicle charging system and a compatible solar source. It can receive power from:

  • The vehicle charging system while the engine is running
  • A compatible solar source
  • The vehicle and solar inputs simultaneously

Solar panels are not included with this product unless separately specified.

Integrated MPPT Solar Regulator

The charger includes an integrated Maximum Power Point Tracking solar regulator. MPPT control continually adjusts the operating point of a compatible solar source to obtain the available solar power efficiently.

The solar input accepts 9–32V DC. Any connected solar panel or array must remain within the voltage, current and power limits of the REDARC charger.

Green Power Priority

Green Power Priority gives available solar energy preference over alternator input. When suitable solar power is available, the charger uses that energy first and supplements it with vehicle power when required.

Three-Position Isuzu NPS Battery Tray

The system uses a purpose-built three-position battery tray designed for compatible Isuzu NPS chassis applications.

This installation uses two of the three available battery positions. The tray can accommodate up to three compatible batteries, or the remaining position may be used for compatible electrical equipment depending on the final installation layout.

The tray mounts directly to compatible chassis points and provides a dedicated structure for securing the auxiliary battery system beneath the vehicle.

Battery Isolator

A rotary battery isolator switch is included to provide a dedicated means of disconnecting the associated auxiliary battery circuit.

The supplied switch is rated at 275A at 12V and incorporates a removable control knob. It allows the relevant circuit to be isolated for inspection, maintenance or electrical-system servicing.

50A Anderson-Style Connections

The system includes red and grey two-pole 50A Anderson-style connectors. The colour-coded and mechanically keyed housings help distinguish separate electrical connections within the completed installation.

The 50A designation identifies the connector class. The permitted current through each completed circuit remains limited by the wiring, circuit protection, connected equipment and lowest-rated component.

Professional Installation

This Isuzu NPS 75 dual-battery system is professionally fitted by AAV4x4 at our Brendale workshop. Installation includes:

  • Mounting the three-position battery tray to the compatible Isuzu NPS chassis
  • Securing two Hardcore 120Ah AGM batteries in the tray
  • Configuring the batteries as a compatible 12V auxiliary bank
  • Mounting the REDARC BCDC Classic40 charger
  • Connecting the charger to the compatible vehicle charging system
  • Installing the battery isolator switch
  • Installing the red and grey 50A Anderson-style connectors
  • Selecting the appropriate AGM charging profile
  • Checking electrical polarity and connections
  • Operationally testing the completed system

Final component positions and cable routes depend on the vehicle configuration, available chassis space and existing electrical equipment.

Important Note

The supplied REDARC BCDC1240D is a 40A charger. It accepts input from a compatible 12V or 24V vehicle electrical system and provides a regulated 12V charging output.

This package includes two 120Ah AGM batteries. Although the tray provides three battery positions, the third position is not fitted with a battery as part of this product.

A solar panel is not included. The REDARC charger provides an MPPT solar input for connection to a compatible solar source where required.

Available auxiliary capacity reduces at higher discharge rates and lower temperatures. Permitted electrical loads depend on the connected equipment, cabling, circuit protection and complete vehicle electrical configuration.
