The GXO Fuso Fuel Water Separator System adds an extra stage of diesel filtration between the vehicle's fuel tank and the factory OEM fuel filter, providing additional protection against water and particulate contamination before fuel reaches the engine's primary filtration system.
This fitted package is built around the Ryco Z980SK16 Fuel Water Separator and is professionally installed by AAV4x4 for compatible Fuso applications. The system retains the vehicle's OEM fuel filter and operates as an additional pre-filter rather than replacing the factory filtration system.
The Ryco separator combines high-efficiency particulate filtration with water separation, a clear lower collection bowl and drain tap, making it particularly useful for touring, expedition and remote-area vehicles where fuel quality can vary considerably between refuelling locations.
The system is installed in series with the vehicle's existing fuel filtration. Diesel from the tank first passes through the Ryco Fuel Water Separator before continuing to the original Fuso fuel filter and engine fuel system.
This provides an additional opportunity to remove water and contamination before it reaches the OEM filter.

The Ryco Z980-series filter used in this system has a nominal 10-micron rating and a published particulate efficiency of 98.67% at 10 micron.
This additional filtration helps capture dirt and other particulate contamination before the fuel continues through the factory Fuso fuel filter.
The system should therefore be viewed as an additional protective filtration stage working alongside the OEM filter rather than as a replacement for it.
Water contamination is an important concern in diesel fuel systems, particularly where vehicles travel through remote areas or obtain fuel from a wide variety of storage and supply facilities.
The Ryco separator has a published water separation efficiency of 99.1% at a 70-micron water-droplet size.
Separated water is collected in the lower bowl where it can be visually inspected and drained as required.
The lower collection bowl makes routine inspection straightforward. Any visible accumulation of water or contamination can be identified without dismantling the filtration system.
A drain tap at the bottom of the bowl allows accumulated water to be removed during routine inspection and servicing.
The bowl should be checked periodically and particularly after long-distance or remote-area travel.
The Z980SK16 uses water-resistant silicone-coated filter media designed to provide a balance of filtration efficiency, service life and fuel flow.
This allows the separator to perform its additional filtration role without removing the vehicle's original fuel filter from the system.

The filter assembly has a maximum published working pressure of 600kPa / 6 bar / 87psi.
The AAV4x4 fitted package also incorporates a large exhaust heat shield as part of the installation.
The shield is positioned as required in the completed vehicle installation to provide additional thermal protection around the fuel filtration system where it is located near exhaust-system heat.

The clear water bowl should be visually inspected periodically and drained whenever water or contamination is present.
Ryco recommends replacing the filter cartridge in accordance with the vehicle manufacturer's normal fuel-filter service recommendations.
Regular inspection is especially important after travelling through remote areas or when fuel has been obtained from unfamiliar or potentially inconsistent sources.
This system supplements the vehicle's existing Fuso fuel filter; it does not replace the OEM filtration system.
The filter used in this package is a 10-micron Ryco fuel water separator. References to a 30-micron filter in older product information do not reflect the published specification of the current Ryco Z980SK16 filter system.
Any visible water collected in the lower bowl should be drained promptly. If significant water contamination is discovered, the vehicle's fuel tank and OEM fuel filter may also require inspection or servicing.
