This fitted GXO battery upgrade installs two iTechworld iTECH120X PRO 12V 120Ah LiFePO4 deep-cycle batteries and a REDARC BCDC Classic40 12V 40A DC-DC battery charger.
The two iTECH120X PRO batteries are configured as a 12V auxiliary battery bank, providing a combined usable capacity of 240Ah. Each battery incorporates Bluetooth monitoring, an internal battery-management system and a sealed IP67-rated enclosure.
Charging is managed by the REDARC BCDC1240D, which can accept power from the vehicle charging system and a compatible solar source. Its integrated MPPT solar regulator supports simultaneous alternator and solar charging while applying a dedicated lithium charging profile to the auxiliary battery bank.
The batteries and charger are professionally mounted, electrically connected, configured and tested by AAV4x4 at our Brendale workshop.
The upgrade includes two iTechworld iTECH120X PRO lithium iron phosphate batteries. Each battery provides 120Ah of usable capacity at a nominal voltage of 12.8V.
Configured together as a 12V auxiliary bank, the two batteries provide:
The batteries are designed for deep-cycle energy storage and must not be used as engine-cranking batteries.
Each iTECH120X PRO has a published usable capacity of 120Ah. This allows the complete rated capacity to be used within the operating limits of the battery-management system.
The two-battery configuration therefore provides a combined usable auxiliary capacity of 240Ah.
Each iTECH120X PRO incorporates Bluetooth connectivity and can be monitored through the compatible iTechConnect battery-management app.
Available real-time battery information includes:
Bluetooth monitoring allows the condition of each battery to be checked without requiring direct physical access to the battery compartment.
Each battery contains an internal battery-management system designed to monitor battery operation, balance the internal cells and provide electrical protection.
Published BMS functions and operating limits include:
The permitted charging and discharge current of the completed battery bank remains subject to the batteries, cabling, circuit protection and lowest-rated component in the electrical system.
The iTECH120X PRO uses prismatic LiFePO4 cells with vibration-dampening construction. This design is intended to provide stability and vibration resistance for mobile battery installations.
Each iTECH120X PRO has a published continuous discharge rating of 150A and a maximum discharge rating of 430A for five seconds.
The available output from the completed two-battery bank depends on the battery configuration and the ratings of the associated cabling, fuses, isolation equipment, distribution system and connected loads.
The manufacturer lists the following cycle performance for each iTECH120X PRO:
Actual service life depends on charging conditions, depth of discharge, temperature, storage, installation and operating environment.
Each iTECH120X PRO has an IP67-rated enclosure. This provides protection against dust ingress and temporary immersion in water within the limits of the rating.
The batteries use ABS cases and M8 electrical terminals.
The REDARC BCDC1240D Classic40 is a 12V 40A in-vehicle DC-DC battery charger designed to charge an auxiliary battery bank from the vehicle electrical system while driving or from a compatible solar source while parked.
The charger accepts an input voltage between 9V and 32V, allowing it to operate with compatible vehicles using either 12V or 24V charging systems. It provides a regulated 12V output with a maximum rated charging current of 40A.
The BCDC Classic40 provides separate inputs for the vehicle charging system and a compatible solar source. It can use both inputs simultaneously while charging the auxiliary battery bank.
The system can receive available charging power from:
The REDARC charger incorporates a Maximum Power Point Tracking solar regulator. MPPT control continually adjusts the operating point of a compatible solar source to obtain the available solar power efficiently.
The charger accepts a solar-input voltage between 9V and 32V. Any connected solar source must remain within the charger’s voltage, current and power limits.
Green Power Priority gives available solar energy preference over alternator input. When sufficient solar power is available, the charger uses that energy first, reducing the charging demand placed on the vehicle alternator.
The BCDC Classic40 is suitable for conventional alternators and variable-voltage smart alternators. Its controlled DC-DC output maintains an appropriate charging supply to the auxiliary battery bank as vehicle-system voltage changes.
The REDARC charger includes a dedicated LiFePO4 charging profile. During installation, the charging configuration is selected to suit the installed iTECH120X PRO battery bank.
The batteries have a manufacturer-recommended charging voltage of 14.4V.
This GXO lithium battery upgrade is professionally fitted by AAV4x4 at our Brendale workshop. Installation includes:
Final battery positions, charger location and cable routes depend on the GXO configuration, available mounting space and existing electrical installation.
