The AAV4x4 Fuso FGB71 Rear Winch Package provides a dedicated rearward self-recovery system for compatible Fuso Canter FGB71 vehicles, combining an AAV4x4 vehicle-specific rear winch cradle with a Saber HDX 20,000lb 12V electric winch.
With approximately 9,072kg of rated single-line pulling capacity and 25 metres of 12mm synthetic winch rope, the package is designed for the recovery demands of large expedition trucks, motorhomes and heavily equipped touring vehicles.
The fitted system also incorporates heavy-duty 0 B&S positive and negative cabling, high-current distribution hardware and 500A MEGA fuse protection. The complete rear cradle, winch and electrical system are professionally installed and tested by AAV4x4 at our Brendale workshop.
The package is built around the heavy-duty Saber HDX 20,000lb winch, providing approximately 9.1 tonnes of rated single-line pulling capacity.
This level of capacity is particularly relevant to an expedition-configured FGB71, where a motorhome or service body, fuel, water, batteries, tools and touring equipment can result in a substantially heavier vehicle than a conventional recreational 4WD.
A front winch is normally intended to recover the vehicle toward the terrain ahead. There are situations, however, where continuing forward is not the safest or most practical recovery direction.
A dedicated rear-mounted winch gives the FGB71 the ability to recover rearwards toward an appropriate anchor point without relying on complicated rope routing from a front-mounted winch.
A rear winch can be particularly useful when:
The system incorporates an AAV4x4 rear winch cradle designed for the Fuso FGB71.
The cradle provides the mounting foundation required to position the high-capacity winch securely at the rear of the truck as part of a permanent recovery installation.
Using a purpose-built mounting system allows the winch and associated electrical equipment to be incorporated neatly into the vehicle rather than relying on a generic universal mounting arrangement.
The HDX is a heavy-duty electric recovery winch designed for demanding applications involving large 4WDs, expedition vehicles and commercial trucks.
This package specifically uses the 12V version. The electrical installation is configured around a suitable 12V high-current supply for the individual vehicle setup.
The 12V winch must not be connected directly to an unsuitable 24V supply.
The current winch supplied with this package uses 25 metres of 12mm synthetic winch rope.
Synthetic rope provides a lightweight alternative to conventional steel winch cable and is well suited to modern vehicle recovery applications.
Correct inspection, spooling and protection from abrasion remain important throughout the working life of the rope.
The HDX incorporates an automatic load-holding brake to help control the winch drum while operating under load.
This assists with controlled recovery and helps prevent unwanted drum movement while tension is being held during a winching operation.
High-load winching generates considerable heat in the motor and electrical system.
The HDX incorporates thermal overload protection to provide additional protection if operating temperatures become excessive during demanding recovery work.
Winch temperature and duty cycle should still be monitored during extended or high-load recoveries.
Rear-mounted recovery equipment can be exposed to dust, water, mud and road debris, particularly on vehicles regularly operated off road.
The HDX incorporates weather-sealed controls and a sealed solenoid system to help protect critical electrical components in demanding vehicle environments.
A 20,000lb electric winch requires a substantial high-current electrical supply. The AAV4x4 installation therefore uses dedicated 0 B&S battery cable for both the positive and negative winch circuits.
The current package incorporates approximately:
Final routing is determined by the individual vehicle configuration and rear winch installation.
The high-current winch installation incorporates a 500A MEGA automotive fuse together with a dedicated 250/500A MEGA fuse holder.
This provides dedicated circuit protection for the heavy winch cabling as part of the completed electrical system.
Dedicated high-current distribution studs are incorporated into the package to provide secure connection and termination points for the heavy winch cabling.
This creates a cleaner, more serviceable installation than relying on improvised cable junctions for a circuit carrying substantial winching current.
Despite its substantial pulling capacity, the HDX 20,000lb winch has a relatively compact overall package:
A rear winch is particularly valuable on vehicles travelling into areas where roadside recovery assistance may be unavailable and the vehicle needs to carry its own recovery capability.
Typical applications include:
This product is supplied as a professionally fitted rear winch package and is installed by AAV4x4 at our Brendale workshop.

The current AAV4x4 assembly uses a 12V Saber HDX 20,000lb winch with 25m x 12mm synthetic rope. The product title should therefore be read as a synthetic-rope package rather than an older unspecified synthetic-cable configuration.
This package specifically uses a 12V winch. The winch requires a suitable high-current 12V electrical supply and must not be connected directly to an unsuitable 24V source. Final power integration depends on the individual FGB71 electrical configuration.
The rear winch is a vehicle recovery aid and should only be used with appropriately rated recovery equipment, suitable anchor points and safe winching techniques.
Keep people clear of the loaded winch rope and recovery area whenever the winch is under tension.
