The AirSafe Class 6 Low-Mount Hitch is a heavy-duty air-suspended towing hitch designed to reduce shock, vibration, surging and harsh load transfer between a tow vehicle and trailer.
Instead of using a completely rigid connection, the patented design incorporates a heavy-duty airbag that allows controlled movement between the vehicle and trailer. The manufacturer states that this design can reduce shock transfer by up to 90%, helping provide a smoother towing experience across sealed roads, corrugations and uneven surfaces.
The Class 6 hitch is rated for a maximum gross trailer weight of 4500kg and a maximum ball weight of 450kg. It uses a solid 50 x 50mm shank for compatible heavy-duty 2-inch receiver-style tow bars.
An eight-hole adjustable mounting plate provides multiple height positions and supports compatible towball mounts, pintle mounts and weight-distribution brackets. A towball mounting arrangement selected to suit the nominated application is supplied with the hitch.

A conventional rigid hitch transfers road impacts, trailer bounce and fore-and-aft movement directly between the trailer and tow vehicle.

The hitch must only be used within the lowest applicable rating of the complete towing combination. This includes the tow vehicle, tow bar, receiver, hitch, coupling, towball, trailer, tyres and any weight-distribution equipment.
The hitch uses a solid 50 x 50mm steel shank designed for insertion into a compatible heavy-duty 2-inch receiver-style tow bar.
The receiver size, hitch-pin position, available clearance and tow-bar rating must be confirmed before purchase.
The airbag supports the hitch platform while allowing controlled vertical and fore-and-aft movement. Its pressure can be adjusted to suit the connected trailer and ball load within the hitch’s published limits.
The Australian distributor specifies a normal inflation range of approximately 55–75psi and states that the airbag must never exceed 120psi.
Correct air pressure should be established with the trailer connected and loaded for travel, following the supplied operating instructions.
Two commercial shock absorbers are fitted to the Class 6 hitch. These damp the movement of the air-suspended platform and help prevent uncontrolled oscillation or repeated bouncing after the hitch responds to a road impact.
The shock absorber kit is a standard feature of the Class 6 model and provides additional control for heavier towing applications.
The hitch uses four steel tie-rods, each with a published rating of 7300kg. Together, the manufacturer states a combined shock and shear rating of 29,200kg for the tie-rod arrangement.
This component rating describes the strength of the internal tie-rod system. It does not increase the hitch’s maximum towing rating beyond 4500kg gross trailer weight or 450kg ball weight.
The front mounting plate provides eight vertically arranged mounting holes, allowing the coupling position to be adjusted to suit the tow vehicle and trailer.

The Class 6 hitch is specifically designed to support a compatible weight-distribution arrangement when correctly configured.
Weight-distribution equipment is not automatically suitable for every tow vehicle, trailer, coupling or road condition. The complete system must be assessed and adjusted according to the instructions supplied by the tow-vehicle, trailer, hitch and weight-distribution equipment manufacturers.
The hitch is supplied with a towball mounting arrangement selected to suit the nominated application.
The required coupling type and mounting height should be confirmed when ordering. Alternative mounts may be required for trailers using couplings such as a pintle, DO35, DO45 or other specialised connection.
The hitch uses self-lubricating Nyloil components rather than conventional bearings in the moving assembly.
Nyloil is a durable, machinable nylon material selected to provide low-friction movement without conventional bearings that may crush or wear under repeated towing loads.
The steel hitch structure is finished with a durable powder coating to provide a consistent appearance and additional protection against normal environmental exposure.
Like all towing equipment, the hitch should be cleaned and inspected regularly, particularly after use on unsealed roads, in coastal environments or in areas where mud and road contaminants are present.
Brass fittings are used within the air system to support long service life and help maintain reliable air connections.
The airbag, valve and fittings should be inspected periodically for damage, contamination or air leakage.
The low-mount arrangement is intended for towing combinations that require the coupling point to sit lower relative to the centre of the tow-bar receiver.
The required mount height must be confirmed from the loaded trailer coupling height and the tow vehicle’s receiver position. The trailer should sit level when connected and prepared for travel.

This product is supplied unfitted. Confirm the tow vehicle, tow-bar receiver size, receiver rating, trailer mass, ball weight, coupling type and required coupling height before ordering.
The 4500kg gross trailer weight and 450kg ball weight are maximum hitch ratings only. The permitted towing capacity is always determined by the lowest-rated component or limit within the complete vehicle and trailer combination.
The towball or alternative coupling component used with the supplied mount must have a rating suitable for the trailer and must not be exceeded.
Correct air pressure must be established after the loaded trailer is connected. Never exceed the published air-pressure limit.
The hitch extends the coupling point behind the tow-bar receiver. Adequate clearance, tow-bar capacity and compatibility with the vehicle and trailer must be confirmed before use.
Inspect the hitch, airbag, shock absorbers, tie-rods, fasteners, receiver connection, mounting plate and air fittings before towing. Do not use the hitch if any component is loose, damaged or leaking.
