Fuso FGB71 AirGlide Air-Assist Towbar 4500kg with ECU Box and 7-Pin Flat Socket – Fitted

The AAV4x4 AirGlide Towbar is a heavy-duty air-assisted towing system developed specifically for compatible Fuso FGB71 vehicles.

Designed in conjunction with Air Glide Towbars, the system combines air-ride towing technology with AAV4x4’s Fuso-specific engineering experience. Its air-assisted hitch assembly helps reduce harsh shock transfer between the tow vehicle and trailer, providing a smoother and more controlled towing connection across sealed roads, corrugations and uneven surfaces.

The package includes a trailer-light ECU interface box and a 7-pin flat trailer socket. The complete towbar assembly is professionally mounted, connected, configured and tested by AAV4x4 at our Brendale workshop.

Air-Assisted Shock Absorption

A conventional rigid towbar transfers road impacts and trailer movement directly between the tow vehicle and trailer.

The AirGlide system incorporates an airbag-supported hitch assembly that allows controlled movement under towing loads. This helps absorb sharp vertical and fore-and-aft forces before they are transferred through the Fuso chassis, trailer drawbar and trailer body.

The air-assisted design can help reduce:

  • Harsh shock from bumps and corrugations
  • Repeated jolting through the towbar and trailer coupling
  • Sudden load transfer between the vehicle and trailer
  • Vibration reaching the trailer structure and contents
  • Towing harshness experienced inside the vehicle and trailer

Designed to Protect the Trailer

Repeated towing impacts can place stress on trailer frames, cabinetry, appliances, fittings and carried equipment.

By cushioning the towing connection, the AirGlide towbar is designed to reduce the shock transferred into compatible caravans, horse floats, camper trailers, plant trailers and heavy-duty work trailers.

The system does not replace correct trailer loading, appropriate tyre pressures, suitable suspension or careful driving for the prevailing conditions.

Air-Adjustable Towing Geometry

Air pressure within the system allows the operating position of the hitch assembly to be adjusted for the connected trailer and applied load.

Correct adjustment helps establish suitable coupling height and towing geometry, supporting a more stable and controlled towing combination.

The required pressure depends on the trailer, applied coupling load and complete vehicle configuration. The system must be adjusted and checked before towing.

Heavy-Duty Fabricated Construction

The towbar uses a substantial fabricated steel structure intended for demanding touring and commercial applications.

Construction features visible within the assembly include:

  • Heavy fabricated main crossmember
  • Reinforced hitch-support structure
  • Integrated airbag mounting assembly
  • Triangulated steel bracing
  • Receiver-style hitch opening
  • Air-control components and brass fittings
  • Heavy-duty chassis mounting structure

The black protective finish is complemented by orange AAV4x4 and AirGlide identification panels.

Receiver-Style Hitch Connection

The towbar incorporates a square receiver-style hitch opening for use with a compatible rated hitch insert and trailer coupling arrangement.

The hitch insert, towball, pintle or alternative coupling must be correctly rated for the trailer and compatible with the receiver assembly.

Trailer-Light ECU Interface Box

The fitted package includes an ECU interface box for integrating the trailer road-lighting circuits with the Fuso electrical system.

The interface allows the compatible trailer-lighting installation to be connected without placing the full trailer lighting load directly onto the vehicle’s original lighting circuits.

The system is professionally wired, protected and tested as part of the completed installation.

7-Pin Flat Trailer Connection

A 7-pin flat trailer socket is installed to provide a standard connection point for compatible Australian trailer wiring.

The completed socket wiring is checked for correct operation with the applicable trailer-light functions.

Onboard Air-System Requirements

The AirGlide towbar requires a suitable source of compressed air. A compatible onboard air compressor and air tank must be available or installed before the air-assisted system can operate.

The air-supply system must provide:

  • A suitable regulated air supply
  • Safe system-pressure control
  • Secure compressed-air storage
  • Protected hose routing
  • Accessible adjustment and operating controls

An air compressor, air tank and complete onboard air system are not included unless separately specified.

Professional Installation

This Fuso FGB71 AirGlide towbar is professionally fitted by AAV4x4 at our Brendale workshop. Installation includes:

  • Inspection of the compatible Fuso chassis and installation area
  • Mounting the AirGlide towbar assembly to the vehicle
  • Checking the chassis mounting points and fasteners
  • Connecting the towbar to the available compatible air supply
  • Routing and securing the associated air lines
  • Installing the trailer-light ECU interface box
  • Installing and wiring the 7-pin flat trailer socket
  • Checking the receiver and coupling alignment
  • Adjusting the air-assisted hitch mechanism
  • Testing the air system for correct operation and leaks
  • Testing the trailer electrical connection
  • Operational testing of the completed towbar installation

Final installation depends on the vehicle configuration, chassis condition, existing accessories and available onboard air system.

Suitable Applications

  • Caravans
  • Camper trailers
  • Horse floats
  • Plant and equipment trailers
  • Heavy-duty work trailers
  • Touring and expedition trailers
  • Trailers carrying shock-sensitive contents
  • Long-distance towing applications

Important Note

A compatible onboard air compressor, air tank, pressure-control equipment and associated air plumbing are required for operation. These components are not included unless separately specified.

The published 4500kg figure is the maximum towbar rating. The permitted towing capacity is determined by the lowest applicable limit within the complete towing combination, including the vehicle, chassis, towbar, hitch insert, coupling, trailer, axle loads, GVM and GCM.

The receiver insert, towball, pintle or alternative coupling is not listed as included and must be selected to suit the trailer, required coupling height and applicable load rating.

The towbar, airbag, air lines, fittings, mounting points, receiver connection and electrical system must be inspected before towing. Do not use the system if any component is loose, damaged or leaking.
