The AAV 360° Surround View Camera System gives drivers of large trucks, expedition vehicles, motorhomes and work vehicles a much clearer view of the areas immediately surrounding the vehicle.
Using four exterior cameras positioned at the front, rear, left and right of the vehicle, the system combines the individual camera images to create a stitched 360° bird's-eye surround view. This helps expose areas that are difficult or impossible to see from the driver's seat, particularly when parking, reversing or manoeuvring a large vehicle in confined spaces.
The system supports 3D and 2D viewing modes, 1080P video, integrated DVR recording and both CVBS and HDMI video output.
This version is supplied as a professionally fitted and calibrated package, with the cameras positioned around the completed vehicle or tray configuration, wiring securely integrated and the surround-view image calibrated to suit the individual vehicle.
A conventional reversing camera only shows what is directly behind the vehicle. On a large truck or motorhome, substantial blind areas can still remain along the sides, around the front corners and immediately in front of the vehicle.
The 360° system uses four separate camera views and combines them into a single overhead-style image, allowing the driver to see the position of the vehicle relative to surrounding obstacles from one screen.
This is particularly useful when accurately positioning a large vehicle where even a small misjudgement can result in contact with kerbs, bollards, walls, parked vehicles or other obstacles.
The fitted system uses cameras positioned to monitor:
The cameras are positioned to suit the individual vehicle and body configuration so the system can achieve the required overlap between adjacent views.
The system supports both 2D and 3D surround-view modes, giving the driver different ways to assess the space around the vehicle.
The traditional 2D bird's-eye image is particularly useful for accurately judging position during parking and reversing, while the 3D viewing modes provide an alternative perspective when assessing surrounding obstacles.
High-definition 1080P video capability provides clear camera imagery for identifying nearby vehicles, kerbs, bollards, people, terrain and other objects around the vehicle.
The additional image detail is particularly useful on larger vehicles where the cameras may be mounted further away from the driver's seating position than on a conventional passenger vehicle.
The system incorporates DVR recording functionality, allowing compatible camera footage to be recorded and reviewed later when configured with suitable storage media.
This gives the camera system an additional function beyond manoeuvring assistance and allows recorded footage to be accessed when required.
The fitted installation can be integrated with the vehicle's reverse circuit so that selecting reverse automatically displays the appropriate rear and surround-camera view.
This removes the need to manually select a camera before reversing and gives the driver immediate visibility of the area behind and around the vehicle.
The left and right camera views can be integrated with the vehicle's indicator circuits.
Activating an indicator can automatically display the corresponding side-camera view, providing additional visibility along the side of the vehicle during turns, lane positioning and low-speed manoeuvring.
This feature is particularly valuable on trucks and motorhomes where the vehicle body may extend a considerable distance behind the cab and mirrors.
Camera views can also be selected manually, allowing the driver to inspect a particular area of the vehicle even when no automatic trigger is active.
Available viewing options can include:
The surround-view system provides both CVBS and HDMI video outputs, allowing integration with compatible vehicle displays.
HDMI provides a digital high-definition output where supported, while CVBS allows connection to compatible conventional vehicle monitors and video equipment.
Surround-view technology is especially useful on larger vehicles because their height, width, body length and seating position create blind areas that do not exist to the same degree on a normal passenger vehicle.
The system is particularly well suited to:
On tray-back trucks and vehicles with larger bodies, camera placement is determined by the final vehicle configuration rather than simply mounting every camera to the cab.
The side and rear cameras can be positioned around the tray or completed body to provide useful coverage of the actual vehicle footprint.
This is particularly important where the tray, service body or motorhome body is wider or longer than the cab and therefore creates additional blind areas.
The system is designed to assist the driver in situations where accurate positioning of a large vehicle is important.
It can be especially useful when:
The 360° system can also provide useful visibility when manoeuvring through technical off-road terrain.
Individual and surround views can help the driver monitor the position of the front corners, body sides and rear of the vehicle relative to rocks, trees, embankments, washouts and other obstacles that may be difficult to see directly from the cab.
Correct calibration is essential to producing an accurate stitched 360° image.
Once the four cameras have been securely mounted, the system is calibrated to suit their actual positions and the dimensions of the completed vehicle.
This allows the processor to correctly align the individual camera images and create the combined overhead representation.

This is the professionally fitted version of the 4-camera 360° surround-view system. Camera positions and calibration are completed to suit the individual vehicle, tray or body configuration.
A compatible display is required for viewing the camera system. The system provides CVBS and HDMI video outputs, and the vehicle display must provide a suitable compatible input.
DVR recording requires suitable storage media and configuration. Recording media should not be assumed to be included unless specifically stated with the package.
The 360° camera system is a driver assistance and visibility aid. It does not replace mirrors, direct observation or normal safe driving and reversing procedures.
