The AAV4x4 Isuzu NPS Rear Winch Package adds a powerful rear-mounted recovery option to compatible Isuzu NPS 4x4 models from 2008 onwards.
The package combines an AAV4x4 vehicle-specific rear winch mounting cradle with a Saber HDX 20,000lb 24V electric winch, loaded with 25 metres of 12mm synthetic winch rope. A dedicated heavy-current electrical system using 0 B&S battery cable, 500A MEGA fuse protection and distribution hardware completes the installation.
With approximately 9,072kg of rated single-line pulling capacity, the system is designed for the recovery demands of large expedition trucks, motorhomes and heavily equipped Isuzu NPS touring vehicles.
This is a fully fitted package, professionally mounted, electrically connected and tested by AAV4x4 at our Brendale workshop.
The centrepiece of the system is the 20,000lb Saber HDX winch, providing approximately 9.1 tonnes of rated single-line pulling capacity.
This level of winch capacity is particularly relevant to a fully equipped Isuzu NPS, where an expedition body, fuel, water, batteries, recovery equipment and touring gear can result in a substantially heavier vehicle than a conventional recreational 4WD.
Mounting the winch at the rear gives the vehicle a dedicated recovery option in the opposite direction to a conventional front winch. This can be particularly useful where the safest or most practical recovery is to retreat from an obstacle rather than continue forward.
The package incorporates an AAV4x4 rear winch mounting cradle designed for the Isuzu NPS 2008+.
The cradle provides the mounting foundation required to position the high-capacity winch securely at the rear of the vehicle as part of the completed recovery installation.
Using a vehicle-specific mounting system also allows the winch, electrical connections and associated high-current hardware to be incorporated into the NPS as one complete package rather than relying on a universal mounting arrangement.
The Saber HDX is designed for demanding recovery applications involving large 4WDs, commercial vehicles and heavy touring rigs.
This package specifically uses the 24V version, allowing the winch to integrate with the electrical architecture of the Isuzu NPS without requiring a separate 12V high-current winch supply.
The winch combines high pulling capacity with a compact overall package measuring approximately:
The winch is supplied with 25 metres of 12mm synthetic winch rope.
Synthetic rope provides a lightweight alternative to conventional steel winch cable and is well suited to modern vehicle recovery systems. Correct inspection, spooling and protection from abrasion remain important whenever synthetic recovery rope is used.
The HDX incorporates an automatic load-holding brake to help control the winch drum under load.
The braking system is particularly important during controlled vehicle recovery where predictable winch operation is required while pulling or holding a substantial load.
High-load winching produces considerable heat through the motor and electrical system.
The Saber HDX incorporates thermal overload protection to provide additional protection when operating temperatures become excessive during demanding recovery work.
Recovery equipment mounted underneath or toward the rear of an off-road vehicle can be exposed to dust, water, mud and road debris.
The winch therefore incorporates weather-sealed controls and a sealed solenoid system designed for demanding vehicle environments.
A 20,000lb electric winch requires a substantial high-current electrical supply, particularly when operating under significant load.
The fitted package uses heavy-duty 0 B&S red and black battery cable to carry power between the vehicle electrical system and the rear-mounted winch.
Both positive and negative high-current cabling are incorporated rather than relying on lightweight accessory wiring for the winch supply.
The high-current electrical installation incorporates 500A MEGA automotive fuse protection with dedicated 250/500A MEGA fuse holders.
The assembly uses protected high-current distribution components to provide an appropriately configured electrical path for the rear winch installation.
Dedicated distribution studs and bus hardware are incorporated into the electrical installation to provide secure connection points for the heavy winch cables.
This allows the high-current wiring to be terminated and distributed through purpose-built electrical connection points rather than improvised cable junctions.
A front winch is an excellent recovery tool, but it naturally pulls the vehicle toward whatever lies ahead. In some situations, the safer recovery path is backwards.
A rear-mounted winch can be particularly useful when:
The package is particularly well suited to Isuzu NPS vehicles operating well away from normal roadside recovery assistance.
Typical applications include:
This product is supplied as a professionally fitted rear winch package and is installed by AAV4x4 at our Brendale workshop.

This package uses the 24V Saber HDX 20,000lb winch with 25m x 12mm synthetic rope.
The rear winch is a vehicle recovery aid and must be used with correctly rated recovery equipment, suitable anchor points and safe winching techniques appropriate to the vehicle and recovery situation.
Recovery loads can be extremely high. The winch should only be operated in accordance with safe recovery practices and with people kept clear of the loaded winch rope and recovery area.
