REDARC Tow-Pro Elite V3 Electric Trailer Brake Controller – 12V and 24V

The REDARC Tow-Pro Elite V3 is an electric trailer brake controller designed for smooth, controlled trailer braking across highway, gravel and off-road conditions. Its compact remote control requires minimal dashboard space, while the main control unit is concealed securely behind the dash.

Selectable Proportional and User Controlled braking modes allow the driver to choose the braking response best suited to the vehicle, trailer, road surface and terrain. The controller also includes manual trailer-brake override, Active Calibration and integrated fault diagnostics.

The Tow-Pro Elite operates from compatible 12V or 24V vehicle electrical systems and can control electric trailer brakes on trailers with up to three axles. This product is supplied unfitted.

Two Selectable Braking Modes

The Tow-Pro Elite provides two operating modes so the trailer-braking response can be adapted to different driving conditions.

Proportional Mode

Proportional Mode applies the trailer brakes according to the vehicle’s measured deceleration. The harder the tow vehicle brakes, the more braking force is applied to the trailer.

This mode is intended for highway driving, gravel roads and everyday towing where smooth, automatic trailer braking is preferred. The control-knob setting adjusts the overall braking force to suit the trailer and load.

User Controlled Mode

User Controlled Mode applies the trailer brakes at the level selected on the control knob, regardless of how strongly the tow vehicle is braking.

This provides direct and predictable trailer-brake control for off-road driving, sand, mud, steep descents and other situations where a consistent preset braking level may be preferred.

Manual Trailer-Brake Override

Pressing the remote control knob manually applies the trailer brakes independently of the tow vehicle brakes.

This function can be used to help correct trailer sway or apply trailer braking when required without first applying the vehicle brakes. Manual override is not intended to replace normal use of the tow vehicle’s braking system.

In Proportional Mode, manual override provides a light trailer-brake application. In User Controlled Mode, it applies the braking level selected on the control knob.

Active Calibration

Active Calibration continually monitors the vehicle’s direction of travel and learns the installed orientation of the main control unit while the vehicle is being driven.

Calibration can occur with or without a trailer connected, and the main unit can be mounted in any orientation provided it is secured to a solid surface and cannot move after installation.

This mounting flexibility allows the control unit to be concealed in a suitable position behind the dashboard without needing to be installed in one specific direction.

Compact Remote Control

Only the compact control knob and LED indicator remain visible after installation. The remote head can be positioned on a suitable dashboard or centre-console panel within easy reach of the driver.

The rotary control adjusts the trailer-braking force from 0 to 10, while pressing the knob activates manual override and is also used when changing operating modes.

The remote head requires a single 10mm mounting hole when installed directly through a suitable dashboard or console panel.

Colour LED Status Indication

The integrated LED provides clear visual feedback about the controller’s operating mode and status:

  • Blue: Proportional Mode
  • Green: User Controlled Mode
  • Red transition: trailer braking is being applied
  • Blue and green flashing: Active Calibration is in progress
  • Other flashing sequences: wiring or system fault indication

The LED brightness reduces after the control is released so that it is less intrusive during night driving.

12V and 24V Vehicle Compatibility

The Tow-Pro Elite operates from an input-voltage range of 9–32V and automatically supports compatible 12V and 24V tow vehicles without manual voltage selection.

When controlling standard 12V electric trailer brakes, no separate voltage converter is required for installation in a compatible 24V tow vehicle.

The controller does not act as a voltage converter for the trailer’s road-lighting circuits. The tow vehicle and trailer lighting voltages must be correctly matched through the appropriate towing electrical system.

Electric and Electric-Over-Hydraulic Brakes

The Tow-Pro Elite is suitable for compatible electric trailer brakes and supported electric-over-hydraulic braking systems.

  • Compatible electric brakes can be controlled from either 12V or 24V tow vehicles
  • Compatible electric-over-hydraulic systems can be operated from a 12V vehicle installation
  • A suitable adapter, such as the REDARC EB24A, is required for applicable electric-over-hydraulic or ESC installations on a 24V vehicle

The requirements of the individual electric-over-hydraulic actuator or sway-control system must be confirmed before installation.

Park Brake Feature

When the vehicle remains stationary with the brakes applied for more than three seconds, the controller manages the trailer-brake output to help reduce the braking effort required while limiting the risk of the vehicle and trailer rolling forward or backward.

Fault Diagnostics

The Tow-Pro Elite monitors the vehicle and trailer-brake wiring and uses colour-coded LED flash sequences to identify detected faults.

Diagnostic indications can assist with identifying issues such as:

  • Trailer connection faults
  • Short circuits in the brake-output wiring
  • Brake-light signal wiring faults
  • Ground-circuit faults
  • Unstable supply voltage
  • Remote-head cable faults

A vehicle and trailer should not be towed while an active controller fault remains unresolved.

Important Note

This product is supplied unfitted. Installation requires correctly rated wiring, circuit protection and connections suited to the tow vehicle and trailer braking system.

The main unit must be securely mounted to a solid surface inside the vehicle cabin. It must not be mounted to loose wiring or positioned where it is exposed to engine heat, water, salt spray or excessive humidity.

Electric-over-hydraulic braking systems and trailer stability-control systems may require additional components. A suitable adapter such as the REDARC EB24A is not included unless separately specified.

The Tow-Pro Elite does not convert the voltage of the trailer’s stop, tail, indicator or other road-lighting circuits.

Trailer brakes should be checked at low speed each time a trailer is connected, and all braking-system faults must be investigated before towing.
