Mister Hitches 4000kg Extra Heavy-Duty Adjustable Ball Mount – 80–190mm Drop

The MHABM-5XHD is an extra heavy-duty, fully reversible adjustable ball mount designed for compatible 50 x 50mm towbar receivers. Its 12-stage configuration provides six drop positions and six rise positions, allowing the trailer coupling height to be matched more closely to the tow vehicle.

The adjustable mount is rated to a maximum gross trailer weight of 4000kg and a maximum tongue weight of 400kg. Heavy-duty construction includes 10mm dual support gussets, a substantial 25 x 75mm ball platform, high-tensile mounting bolts and a matte-black Seaguard finish.

Three receiver-pin positions provide a choice of installed lengths and improve compatibility with shorter towbar receivers. The 7/8-inch ball hole accepts a compatible 50mm towball with the appropriate shank size.

This product is supplied unfitted.

12-Stage Height Adjustment

Both main sections of the ball mount can be inverted, providing a total of 12 available towing-height positions.

The six published drop positions are:

  • 80mm
  • 110mm
  • 130mm
  • 140mm
  • 160mm
  • 190mm

The six published rise positions are:

  • 50mm
  • 80mm
  • 105mm
  • 110mm
  • 135mm
  • 165mm

This adjustment range allows the towing position to be configured for vehicles and trailers with different receiver and coupling heights.

Fully Reversible Design

The receiver shank and adjustable ball platform can both be inverted. This allows the same assembly to provide either a lowered or raised towball position without requiring a separate rise hitch.

The loaded trailer should sit as level as practical when connected for travel. Correct coupling height supports suitable trailer stability, braking and load distribution.

4000kg Towing Rating

The ball mount has published maximum ratings of:

  • 4000kg gross trailer weight
  • 400kg tongue weight

These ratings apply to the ball mount itself. The permitted towing capacity of the completed combination is always determined by the lowest-rated vehicle, towbar, receiver, ball mount, towball, coupling or trailer component.

Heavy-Duty Ball Platform

The adjustable towing platform measures 25mm thick by 75mm wide, providing a substantial mounting surface for a compatible towball.

The platform has a 7/8-inch mounting hole and is suitable for a compatible 50mm towball with the corresponding shank diameter. The towball must have a rating appropriate for the trailer and towing combination.

10mm Dual Support Gussets

Two 10mm support gussets reinforce the receiver shank and vertical adjustment section. These gussets help resist movement and distribute towing loads through the ball-mount structure.

High-Tensile Adjustment Hardware

The adjustable platform is secured using 16mm, 12.9-grade high-tensile bolts. The manufacturer specifies that these bolts are to be tightened to 189Nm.

Correct bolt installation and torque are essential. The adjustment hardware should be checked before towing and inspected periodically during normal vehicle maintenance.

Three Receiver-Pin Positions

The receiver shank incorporates three hitch-pin holes, allowing the installed length to be adjusted according to the towbar receiver and required clearance.

The published distances from the centre of each receiver-pin hole to the centre of the ball hole are approximately:

  • 266mm
  • 305mm
  • 331mm

The corresponding receiver-pin holes are positioned approximately 50mm, 76mm and 115mm from the end of the shank.

This three-hole design improves compatibility with shorter towbar receivers while also providing longer positions where additional clearance is required.

50mm Receiver Compatibility

The square shank fits compatible 50 x 50mm, or 2 x 2-inch, towbar receivers.

The receiver dimensions, available insertion depth, hitch-pin diameter, pin-hole position and towbar rating must be confirmed before use.

Coupling Clearance

The ball mount provides approximately 164mm between the end of the receiver shank and the beginning of the support gusset.

Its geometry is designed to suit Stone Stomper installations and many commonly used trailer couplings, including compatible DO35-style couplings.

Clearance must still be checked with the individual vehicle, towbar, coupling, drawbar, stone guard and trailer through the complete turning range.

Robotic-Welded and CNC-Machined Construction

The assembly uses robotic welding for consistent fabrication and CNC-machined components for accurate fitment of the adjustable sections and mounting hardware.

The heavy-duty steel construction is intended for demanding touring, commercial and off-road towing applications when used within the published ratings.

Matte-Black Seaguard Finish

A matte-black Seaguard finish is applied to the steel assembly for a durable exterior and additional protection against normal environmental exposure.

The mount should still be cleaned and inspected regularly, particularly after use on beaches, unsealed roads or in corrosive environments.

Suitable Applications

  • Lifted four-wheel drives
  • Trucks and commercial vehicles
  • Caravans and camper trailers
  • Off-road trailers
  • Plant and equipment trailers
  • Horse floats
  • Work and trade trailers
  • Vehicle and trailer combinations requiring adjustable drop or rise

Important Note

The manufacturer specifies a maximum drop of approximately 190mm. Published dimensions are approximate.

A towball, receiver pin and receiver-pin retaining clip are not listed as included and must be selected separately.

The ball mount’s 4000kg gross trailer weight and 400kg tongue weight ratings do not increase the tow vehicle or towbar’s permitted towing capacity. The lowest-rated component or legal limit within the complete towing combination must always be observed.

The selected towball must have a compatible 7/8-inch shank and an appropriate load rating. A lower-rated towball or coupling will reduce the rating of the complete connection to that lower figure.

Confirm the receiver dimensions, required drop or rise, installed length, ball height and clearance around the vehicle and trailer before use.
