Fuso FGB71 4500kg Towbar with Rear-Mounted 12V 20,000lb Carbon Winch – Fitted

This heavy-duty fitted package combines a 4500kg-rated towbar with a custom rear winch cradle and a Carbon Scout Pro 20,000lb 12V recovery winch for compatible Fuso FGB71 vehicles.

The rear-mounted winch provides a powerful recovery option when the vehicle needs to be pulled backwards or when the front of the truck is not accessible. Its 20,000lb single-line pulling capacity, 7HP series-wound motor, three-stage planetary gearbox and 25m synthetic rope make it well suited to large off-road trucks and demanding vehicle-recovery applications.

The package also includes a solid forged drop ball mount with a 70mm towball, a 7-pin flat trailer socket and an electronic trailer-light interface for integration with the Fuso electrical system.

The towbar, custom winch cradle, winch, high-current electrical system and trailer wiring are professionally installed and operationally tested by AAV4x4 at our Brendale workshop.

Rear-Mounted Recovery Winch

The custom rear cradle positions the winch within the Fuso’s rear towbar structure, providing a dedicated rearward recovery point without requiring a portable winch system.

A rear-mounted winch can be particularly useful when:

  • The vehicle must be recovered in the direction from which it entered
  • Forward recovery access is obstructed
  • The vehicle cannot safely continue farther along the track
  • A controlled rearward pull is required
  • The front winch or recovery position cannot be used

The cradle is designed to securely support the winch and transfer recovery loads into the compatible rear towbar structure.

20,000lb Single-Line Pull

The Scout Pro winch has a rated single-line pull of 20,000lb, equivalent to approximately 9072kg under the manufacturer’s test conditions.

Available pulling capacity decreases as additional rope layers build on the winch drum. Recovery loads must always be assessed before use, and suitable recovery techniques should be selected for the vehicle, terrain and conditions.

The winch rating is not the same as the towbar rating and does not increase the Fuso’s towing capacity.

12V 7HP Series-Wound Motor

The winch is powered by a 12V DC 7HP series-wound motor designed to provide strong low-speed pulling performance under heavy recovery loads.

The manufacturer’s published 12V performance figures are:

Line Pull Line Speed Motor Current
No load 8.0m/min 70A
1814kg 3.3m/min 145A
3629kg 2.6m/min 230A
5443kg 1.9m/min 310A
7257kg 1.4m/min 390A
9072kg 1.0m/min 460A

Actual performance depends on battery condition, cable length, electrical resistance, rope layers, recovery load and operating temperature.

Three-Stage Planetary Gearbox

A three-stage planetary gearbox provides the high gear reduction required to convert the motor’s speed into controlled pulling force.

The 345:1 gear ratio is designed for demanding truck-recovery loads, while the rotating ring-gear clutch allows the drum to be disengaged for manual rope payout.

Automatic Braking

The automatic braking system is positioned within the motor bracket. It applies braking force to control the drum when winching stops and helps prevent the rope from paying out under load.

The brake does not replace correct recovery procedures, wheel chocks or other measures required to control the vehicle during a recovery.

25m Synthetic Winch Rope

The winch is supplied with 25m of 13mm synthetic rope. Synthetic rope is lighter and easier to handle than an equivalent steel cable and does not develop sharp wire strands.

The rope must be inspected before every recovery for:

  • Cuts or damaged fibres
  • Abrasion and glazing
  • Heat damage
  • Chemical contamination
  • Crushed or flattened sections
  • Damage near the hook or drum attachment

A suitable winch-rope damper should be used during recovery operations.

Premium Billet Hawse Fairlead

The synthetic rope passes through a premium multi-position hawse fairlead CNC-machined from billet aluminium and finished with a Type III hard-anodised surface.

Its smoothly radiused opening supports the synthetic rope as it moves across the fairlead during straight and angled pulls.

Wired and Wireless Controls

The winch provides two control options:

  • A wired hand controller with a 3.6m lead
  • A wireless handheld remote

The wired controller provides a direct physical connection to the winch, while the wireless remote allows the operator to select a suitable observation position within its operating range.

The operator must maintain a clear view of the winch, rope, vehicle and recovery area whenever the winch is operating.

Protected High-Current Electrical System

The winch installation includes heavy-gauge 0 B&S positive and negative battery cabling, a 500A fuse and fuse holder, and suitable high-current distribution components.

The electrical system is securely routed and protected against:

  • Sharp edges
  • Excessive heat
  • Abrasion
  • Moving vehicle components
  • Loose or unsupported cable movement

The 12V winch requires a compatible high-current 12V battery supply. The manufacturer recommends a battery rated at a minimum of 650CCA for winching.

4500kg-Rated Towbar

The package incorporates a heavy-duty towbar rated to a maximum of 4500kg when used within the applicable limits of the complete vehicle and trailer combination.

The actual permitted towing capacity is determined by the lowest applicable rating or legal limit, including the Fuso, towbar, receiver, ball mount, towball, trailer coupling, trailer, axle loads, GVM and GCM.

Forged Drop Ball Mount and 70mm Towball

A solid drop-forged ball mount and compatible 70mm towball are included for heavy-duty trailer applications.

The reversible mount provides approximately:

  • 152mm drop in the lowered orientation
  • 127mm rise in the reversed orientation

The supplied ball mount and 70mm towball are rated to a maximum gross trailer weight of 4500kg when used with a suitably rated towbar, receiver and trailer coupling.

Trailer-Light ECU Interface

The package includes an electronic trailer-light interface for integrating compatible trailer road lights with the Fuso electrical system.

The interface allows the trailer lamps to operate without applying their full electrical load directly to the vehicle’s original lighting circuits.

7-Pin Flat Trailer Socket

A 7-pin flat trailer socket provides the connection point for compatible Australian trailer wiring.

The completed installation is wired and tested for the applicable trailer-lighting functions.

Professional Installation

This complete Fuso FGB71 towing and rear-recovery package is professionally installed by AAV4x4 at our Brendale workshop. Installation includes:

  • Inspection of the vehicle chassis and rear mounting area
  • Installation of the 4500kg-rated towbar

Important Note

The winch is designed for vehicle-recovery pulling only. It must not be used for lifting or suspending people, vehicles or other loads.

The 20,000lb figure is the winch’s maximum rated single-line pull under the manufacturer’s test conditions. It is not the towbar rating and does not increase the vehicle’s permitted towing capacity.

The winch requires a compatible high-current 12V battery supply. A replacement or additional battery is not included unless separately specified.

The published 4500kg towbar rating is subject to the vehicle’s approved towing limits. The lowest-rated component or legal limit within the complete towing combination must always be observed.

The winch rope, hook, fairlead, mounting cradle, towbar, receiver, towball, electrical cables and circuit protection must be inspected before every recovery or towing operation.

Safe winching procedures, correctly rated recovery equipment and an appropriate recovery plan must be used at all times.
