The AAV4x4 Fuso FGB71 / FG84 20,000lb Winch Package is a heavy-duty recovery upgrade built around the Saber HDX 20,000lb 12V electric winch.
Designed for large touring trucks, expedition builds and demanding off-road recovery, the HDX provides approximately 9,072kg of rated single-line pulling capacity and is supplied with 25 metres of 12mm synthetic winch rope.
The fitted AAV4x4 package also incorporates dedicated 0 B&S positive and negative battery cabling, 500A MEGA fuse protection and high-current distribution hardware for a professionally integrated winch electrical system.
This is the 12V version of the HDX winch and is professionally mounted, electrically connected and tested by AAV4x4 at our Brendale workshop.
With a rated pulling capacity of 20,000lb, the HDX is designed for recovery situations involving substantially heavier vehicles than a typical recreational 4WD.
A fully equipped Fuso expedition truck can carry significant additional mass through its body, fuel, water, batteries, tools and touring equipment. A high-capacity winch provides a recovery system better suited to these larger vehicle applications.
The 20,000lb rating equates to approximately 9.1 tonnes of rated single-line pull.
The current AAV4x4 package is supplied with 25 metres of 12mm synthetic winch rope.
Synthetic rope provides a lightweight alternative to conventional steel winch cable and is well suited to modern vehicle recovery systems.
Correct inspection, spooling and protection from abrasion remain important throughout the service life of the rope.
This package specifically uses the 12V version of the Saber HDX 20,000lb winch.
A winch of this capacity requires a correctly configured high-current 12V supply. As part of the fitted package, AAV4x4 completes the applicable electrical integration and high-current connection for the individual vehicle configuration.
The winch must not be connected directly to an unsuitable voltage supply.
The HDX incorporates an automatic load-holding brake to help control the winch drum when operating under load.
This assists with controlled recovery and helps prevent unintended rollback while the winch is holding tension.
Heavy winching can generate substantial heat through the motor and electrical components.
Integrated thermal overload protection provides additional protection if operating temperatures become excessive during demanding recovery work.
Winch temperature and duty cycle should still be monitored during prolonged or high-load recoveries.
Recovery equipment can be exposed to water, mud, dust and road debris, particularly on vehicles regularly used off road.
The HDX incorporates weather-sealed controls and a sealed solenoid/control system to help protect critical electrical components in demanding vehicle environments.
The HDX is designed around reinforced components, a rugged housing and corrosion-resistant finishes for demanding recovery applications.
Its heavy-duty construction makes it particularly suitable for expedition vehicles, commercial trucks and remote-area touring builds where recovery equipment needs to withstand repeated exposure to harsh conditions.
A 20,000lb electric winch can draw substantial current under load, so the fitted package uses dedicated 0 B&S battery cable for the main electrical supply.
The current package incorporates approximately:
Final cable routing and actual installed length depend on the vehicle and winch mounting position.
The high-current winch circuit incorporates a 500A MEGA automotive fuse and dedicated 250/500A MEGA fuse holder.
This provides dedicated circuit protection for the heavy-current winch wiring as part of the professionally installed electrical system.
A dedicated 10mm distribution stud is incorporated into the installation to provide a secure connection point for the heavy winch cabling.
Using purpose-designed high-current connection hardware provides a clean, secure and serviceable electrical installation.
Despite its substantial pulling capacity, the HDX 20,000lb winch has relatively compact overall dimensions:
The fitted 20,000lb winch package is particularly suited to Fuso vehicles operating in environments where independent self-recovery capability forms an important part of the overall vehicle build.
Typical applications include:

The current AAV4x4 assembly uses 25m x 12mm synthetic winch rope. Older references to a 21m synthetic cable do not reflect the current supplied winch specification.
This package uses the 12V version of the Saber HDX 20,000lb winch. The winch requires a correctly configured 12V high-current electrical supply.
A compatible winch cradle, winch-ready bull bar or other suitably engineered mounting system is required and is not included with this winch package unless separately specified.
Always use correctly rated recovery points and recovery equipment appropriate to the vehicle and recovery situation. Keep people clear of the loaded winch rope and recovery area during operation.
