The Gen-Y 10" Drop 4500kg Torsion-Flex Hitch with Australian Tongue is a premium heavy-duty towing system engineered to deliver greater towing stability, improved ride quality and enhanced vehicle control. Designed and manufactured in the USA, this adjustable hitch incorporates Gen-Y's patented Torsion-Flex technology to isolate shock loads between the tow vehicle and trailer, creating a significantly smoother towing experience.

Rated to tow up to 4,500kg with a maximum 500kg tongue weight, this hitch is ideally suited to heavy caravans, expedition trailers, horse floats, equipment trailers and other demanding towing applications. The supplied Australian Tongue is designed specifically for the Australian market and is compatible with DO35, DO45 and conventional 50mm or 70mm ball couplings when configured appropriately.

Torsion-Flex Suspension Technology

Unlike a conventional rigid hitch that transfers every bump, pothole and shock directly between the trailer and tow vehicle, the Gen-Y Torsion-Flex Hitch uses heavy-duty rubber torsion cords to absorb much of the impact energy before it reaches either vehicle.

According to Gen-Y, only around 10% of trailer inertia is transferred through the hitch, compared with a conventional rigid hitch where virtually all shock loads are transmitted directly into both the tow vehicle and trailer. This results in substantially smoother towing and improved control.

Benefits of a Torsion-Flex Hitch

  • Significantly smoother towing experience
  •
  • Reduces harsh shock transfer between trailer and tow vehicle
  •
  • Helps minimise trailer sway
  •
  • Allows the tow vehicle and trailer to react more independently to road irregularities
  •
  • Improves vehicle stability over bumps, potholes, bridge joints and uneven surfaces
  •
  • Improves braking stability by promoting more even load transfer
  •
  • Reduces driver fatigue on long journeys
  •
  • Helps reduce vibration transferred to cargo and trailer contents
  •
  • May reduce tyre wear and improve fuel economy by reducing bouncing and shock loading

Why Choose a Gen-Y Hitch?

Heavy trailers place considerable dynamic loads on both the tow vehicle and the trailer. Every road imperfection generates shock forces that travel through a conventional rigid hitch, increasing stress on suspension components, chassis, tow bars and the trailer itself.

The Torsion-Flex system is designed to absorb much of this energy before it reaches the towing combination. The result is improved comfort, better vehicle control and reduced fatigue on both the driver and the equipment being towed.

For caravans, horse floats, expedition trailers and other valuable loads, reducing continuous impact loading can also help minimise vibration experienced by cargo during transport.

What Happens Without One?

Traditional rigid tow hitches transmit virtually all movement directly between the trailer and tow vehicle. Over long distances this can result in increased bouncing, greater shock loading over rough roads and more vibration being transferred into both vehicles.

The Gen-Y Torsion-Flex Hitch is specifically designed to reduce these forces, creating a more controlled and comfortable towing experience, particularly on uneven roads and long-distance touring routes.

Australian Tongue

The included Australian Tongue has been developed specifically for Australian towing applications. It features three pin positions, allowing the coupling position to be moved closer to or further from the vehicle to suit different trailer configurations.

With the appropriate configuration, it accommodates:

  • DO45 couplings
  •
  • DO35 couplings (using the reducer bush)
  •
  • 50mm tow balls
  •
  • 70mm tow balls

Maintenance

The Torsion-Flex Hitch is designed to be virtually maintenance free. There are no airbags requiring pressure adjustment and no bearings that require regular servicing or replacement.

Important: Never exceed the towing, tongue weight or receiver ratings specified by the vehicle manufacturer, trailer manufacturer or tow coupling manufacturer. The maximum allowable towing capacity is always limited by the lowest-rated component in the complete towing system.
