Fuel Filter Service Procedure

The following provides a general guide for servicing the compatible FGB71 fuel filter. Always follow the applicable Fuso service information for the specific vehicle.

1. Prepare the Vehicle

• Park the vehicle safely on a level surface.
• Switch the engine off.
• Allow hot engine and exhaust components to cool before commencing work.
• Have the replacement fuel filter, drain container, gloves and cleaning materials ready.

2. Locate the Fuel Filter

Locate the vehicle's OEM fuel filter assembly and ensure there is sufficient access to the filter housing and electrical connections before beginning removal.

3. Disconnect and Drain

• Disconnect the applicable water-sensor electrical plug.
• Position a suitable drain container beneath the filter.
• Drain fuel or accumulated water from the lower section of the filter assembly as required.

4. Remove the Filter Housing

• Position the FGB71 fuel filter wrench securely around the compatible housing.
• Ensure the wrench is fully engaged before applying force.
• Turn the housing counter-clockwise to loosen it.
• If additional leverage is required, use the incorporated drive opening with a suitable matching tool.
• Carefully remove the housing and filter element.
• Prevent dirt or other contamination from entering the open fuel system.

5. Clean and Inspect

• Clean the reusable housing components.
• Inspect the housing and sealing surfaces for damage.
• Remove the old seal or gasket where applicable.
• Ensure the sealing groove and mating surfaces are clean before assembly.

6. Install the Replacement Filter

• Fit the correct replacement fuel filter.
• Install the new seal or gasket supplied with the replacement filter where applicable.
• Lubricate the replacement seal as specified for the filter system.
• Refit the drain components and water sensor correctly.
• Install the housing and tighten it in accordance with the applicable service requirements.

Do not excessively tighten the filter housing. Over-tightening can damage the housing or sealing components and make the next service unnecessarily difficult.

7. Prime and Check the Fuel System

• Prime the fuel system using the vehicle's applicable priming procedure.
• Start the engine once the system has been correctly primed.
• Inspect the filter housing, drain and associated connections carefully for fuel leaks.
• Confirm normal engine operation before returning the vehicle to service.
