Fuso Quick-Connect 10-Micron Fuel Water Separator Kit – Unfitted

This Fuso-specific quick-connect fuel water separator kit provides an additional stage of fuel-system protection by removing fine particulate contamination and separating water before it reaches the vehicle’s primary fuel filter and sensitive diesel fuel-system components.

The system uses a high-efficiency 10-micron fuel filter element together with a clear water-separation bowl, allowing collected water to be visually identified and drained before it can continue through the fuel system.

Unlike a basic universal installation, this package includes metal fuel-line quick connectors, 8mm fuel hose and clamps selected to simplify integration with compatible Fuso fuel lines.

This product is supplied unfitted.

Why Add a Fuel Water Separator?

Modern diesel fuel systems operate with extremely precise components and small internal clearances. Contaminated fuel can cause rapid wear or damage to pumps, injectors and other fuel-delivery components.

Even clean fuel can pick up contamination as it passes through transport tankers, service-station storage tanks and vehicle fuel tanks. Moisture can also enter the fuel system through condensation and normal tank breathing.

An additional fuel water separator helps remove these contaminants before they reach the vehicle's primary fuel filter.

Typical contaminants can include:

  • Water and moisture
  • Dirt and dust
  • Rust particles
  • Tank scale
  • Microbial contamination
  • Fine solid debris introduced during refuelling

Pre-Filter Protection for the Factory Fuel System

The separator is intended to be installed in series with the Fuso's original fuel filtration system.

Fuel passes through the additional separator first and then continues through the vehicle's original fuel filter before reaching the engine's fuel-delivery components.

This provides two stages of protection:

  1. The additional separator removes water and a large proportion of incoming particulate contamination.
  2. The factory fuel filter continues to provide the final filtration specified for the engine.

The additional separator does not replace the original Fuso fuel filter.

10-Micron High-Efficiency Filtration

The supplied filter element has a nominal rating of 10 microns and a published particulate efficiency of 98.67% at 10 microns.

This level of filtration is designed to capture fine contamination while maintaining the fuel flow required by a correctly configured diesel system.

The filter media is silicone coated for water resistance and is engineered to balance three important filtration characteristics:

  • Efficiency: removing harmful contamination from the fuel
  • Life: maintaining useful service life before becoming restricted
  • Flow: allowing sufficient fuel to pass through the filter

Water Separation

Water in diesel fuel can contribute to corrosion, poor combustion, injector damage and premature fuel-system wear.

The separator has a published water efficiency of 99.1% at a nominal 70-micron water-droplet size.

Separated water collects in the clear lower bowl rather than continuing toward the engine.

Clear Water-Collection Bowl

The transparent lower bowl makes routine inspection straightforward. Water is denser than diesel and collects at the bottom of the separator where it can be seen through the bowl.

This allows the driver or technician to identify accumulated water before it reaches the downstream fuel system.

The bowl should be checked regularly, particularly:

  • Before extended or remote-area travel
  • After filling from an unfamiliar fuel source
  • After suspected fuel contamination
  • During routine vehicle servicing
  • Whenever fuel-system performance changes unexpectedly

Drainable Water Trap

Collected water can be drained from the lower section of the separator as required.

Water should not be allowed to accumulate to the point where it can be drawn back into the fuel stream. After draining, the system should be checked carefully for correct sealing and fuel leaks.

Quick-Connect Fuso Installation Kit

This package adds Fuso-specific fuel-line connection components to the separator assembly, reducing the amount of custom fitting required during installation.

The kit includes two metal quick-connect adaptors with M16 filter-side connections:

  • Approximately 7.89mm fuel-line quick connector
  • Approximately 9.49mm fuel-line quick connector

A section of 5/16-inch / 8mm fuel hose and matching clamps is also supplied as part of the kit.

Vehicle fuel-line configuration should still be confirmed before installation because specifications can vary between Fuso models and production years.

Metal Quick-Connect Fittings

The metal fuel-line connectors provide a robust interface between the separator head and the compatible vehicle fuel lines.

Quick-connect fittings also make future filter-system servicing and removal more straightforward than an installation relying entirely on permanently clamped hose connections.

Recommended Installation Position

A fuel water separator is best installed in a protected location with sufficient access for inspection, water drainage and future filter replacement.

Where the vehicle layout allows, an engine-bay installation provides protection from direct road debris while keeping the clear bowl accessible for routine inspection.

The system should be installed:

  • In series with the original fuel filtration system
  • In the correct fuel-flow direction
  • Away from excessive exhaust heat
  • Away from sharp edges and moving components
  • Where the clear bowl remains visible
  • Where the drain can be accessed
  • With the fuel hoses supported and protected from abrasion

Fuel-Flow Capacity

The separator has a maximum recommended flow of:

  • Suction-side installation: 120 litres per hour
  • Positive-pressure installation: 400 litres per hour

The completed installation must remain within the requirements of the vehicle's fuel system.

Why Regular Servicing Matters

The filter traps contamination rather than making it disappear. Over time, captured particles accumulate within the media and gradually increase restriction through the filter.

A heavily loaded filter can contribute to:

  • Reduced fuel flow
  • Fuel starvation under high engine load
  • Reduced engine performance
  • Additional load on the fuel-supply system
  • Hard starting
  • Premature restriction of the complete fuel system

Replacing the filter at the correct interval maintains both filtration performance and adequate fuel flow.

Filter Replacement Interval

The manufacturer specifies that the replacement filter should follow the original equipment fuel-filter service recommendations for the vehicle.

The separator should also be inspected between scheduled filter changes. Earlier replacement may be appropriate following:

  • Known or suspected contaminated fuel
  • Significant visible contamination in the separator
  • Repeated water accumulation
  • Reduced fuel flow
  • Fuel-starvation symptoms
  • Extended operation in harsh or remote conditions

For remote travel, carrying a replacement filter element is a practical precaution where fuel quality may be uncertain.

Important Note

The filter element supplied with this separator system is manufacturer-rated at 10 microns nominal, with 98.67% efficiency at 10 microns.

This system is intended to supplement the Fuso's original fuel filtration. The vehicle's factory fuel filter must remain installed and be serviced according to the vehicle manufacturer's requirements.

The clear water bowl should be inspected regularly and drained whenever accumulated water is detected.

Confirm vehicle fuel-line sizes, quick-connector compatibility, available mounting space and fuel-system configuration before installation.

After installation or servicing, the fuel system must be correctly primed where required and every connection checked carefully for leaks before the engine is operated.
